The Best And Worst Summer Songs

Uncut's decidedly British take on the best and worst Summer tunes finds an early Style Council song out on top, while the advice-dispensing "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" is dismissed as "Supposedly 'profound' pop for simpering idiots".

The Ten Worst Summer Songs

1. Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)
2. Dario G - Sunchyme
3. Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime
4. Bryan Adams - Summer Of '69 (available on Reckless Uncut: "Best years of his life. Worst tune of ours." Then why is it #4? Bryan Adams was only 10 in 1969. They're both lying!)
5. Dodgy - Staying Out For The Summer (available on Ace A's And Killer B's Uncut: "The Roxette of Britpop do their worst.")
6. R Kelly - Summer Bunnies
7. Kevin The Gerbil - Summer Holiday
8. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John - Summer Nights
9. Michelle Collins - Sunburn
10. Sabrina - Boys (Summertime Love)

The Ten Best Summer Songs

1. The Style Council - Long Hot Summer (available on The Style Council Collection Uncut: "Earlobe-stroking soul from the Modfather.")
2. T.Rex - Celebrate Summer
3. The Undertones - Here Comes The Summer (available on Teenage Kicks - The Best Of The Undertones Uncut: "Feel-good punk thriller from Feargal and Co.")
4. The Isley Brothers - Summer Breeze
5. The Fall - British People In Hot Weather
6. Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues
7. Denim - Summer Smash
8. Abba - Summer Night City
9. The Pogues - Summer In Sun
10. The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer In The City

What, No...?: Ten More Summer Songs

1. Go-Go's - Vacation (available on Greatest)
2. Bananarama - Cruel Summer (available on The Very Best Of Bananarama)
3. The Sundays - Summertime
4. Alice Cooper - School's Out
5. The Association - Windy (available on Pure 60's: The #1 Hits)
6. Martha & The Vandellas - (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave (available on Pure 60's: The #1 Hits)
7. Fountains Of Wayne - Radiation Vibe
8. Pavement - Summer Babe (available on Slanted and Enchanted
9. Len - Steal My Sunshine (available on You Can't Stop The Bum Rush)
10. Katrina and the Waves - Walking On Sunshine (which started annoying me less once it started being used to accompany wacky comedy footage on programs like Late Night With David Letterman)

I'd never heard it before; I thought it was cute! And I like "Summer Of '69" more than the Style Council song.

Cute gummi bear avatar too!
