Finn Brothers Pay Tribute to Paul Hester
At their first concert in Australia since the death of their former Split Enz and Crowded House bandmate Paul Hester in March, Neil Finn "became emotional" as the band returned for their first encore, explaining that "I’ve been thinking about Paul Hester all night... I really miss him." He added, "I thought you might want to sing a song with me for him." The band played a semi-acoustic version of Crowded House's "Four Seasons in One Day".

MP3:Crowded House - Four Seasons in One Day (live, radio, 2001)
Four seasons in one day
Lying in the depths of your imagination
Worlds above and worlds below
The sun shines on the black clouds hanging over the domain
Even when you're feeling warm
The temperature could drop away
Like four seasons in one day
Smiling as the shit comes down
You can tell a man from what he has to say
Everything gets turned around
And I will risk my neck again, again
You can take me where you will
Up the creek and through the mill
All the things you can't explain
Four seasons in one day
Blood dries up
Like rain, like rain
Fills my cup
Like four seasons in one day
It doesn't pay to make predictions
Sleeping on an unmade bed
Finding out wherever there is comfort there is pain
Only one step away
Like four seasons in one day
Blood dries up
Like rain, like rain
Fills my cup
Like four seasons in one day
Hester became Split Enz's drummer in 1983. When they broke up one album later, Hester and Neil Finn went on to form Crowded House, along with bass player Nick Seymour. In 1994, Hester left Crowded House, deciding he would rather be at home with his new daughter than on the road, touring. He later played with other bands, one of them, Tarmac Adam, with his former Crowded House bandmate Nick Seymour. He also had a recurring role on a children's show and hosted a music program, both in Australia. His death was initially reported to have resulted from an attempted suicide, and no suspicious circumstances have been reported since then. Neil Finn said he was devastated by Hester's death. "I have lost one of my best mates."
